Christian Taste Buds

There are foods that I disliked when I was a child that I now enjoy. There are foods that taste bad or mediocre until a little salt or sugar is added. I understand that each of our thousands of taste buds only taste one thing. It seems to me that when we become new creatures in Christ we are given new spiritual taste buds. There are many things that were distasteful to me before I became saved that are now delightful to me. When the Lord is the missing ingredient nothing is good. When the Lord is included everything is improved. God Himself and the things He does don*t seem good to us or seem to work good for us until we become new creatures in Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Psalms 34:8: O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Since I received Jesus I have barely begun to learn that God is good. That God is good is the most lop-sided understatement possible. God is the only One who is good. He always applies His goodness for the benefit of His children. Since He is good it naturally follows that everything that He wills is good, everything that He does is good and everything He wants His children to do is good. Many people reject Christ because the things that they see Christians doing are distasteful to them. I rejected Christ for that reason for many years. Here is a partial list of delicious things I could not taste before.

Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Psalms 84:11: For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Psalms 34:10: The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.

Luke 18:19: And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

Romans 12:2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Ephesians 1:5: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Philippians 1:6: Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Philippians 2:13: For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

1 Peter 3:13: And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?

Romans 2:4: Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

Despising the riches of His goodness is what we all did before we received Christ. Those who reject Him have no idea of the magnitude of the goodness they are rejecting. Imagine going through life without having taste buds that could taste apple pie, ice cream or chocolate cake. Imagine going through all eternity without the ability to taste that God is good.
